Date Founded: Early 70s
Date Abandoned: April 28, 1986

The city of Pripyat was built near the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant to house the workers and their families. It housed 50,000 people. When the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant suffered a steam explosion on April 26, 1986, it took the Soviet Government two days to evacuate the city, a task started on the 27th.
